All the remaining shares of Van Dieren Sweden have finally been acquired by Samskip Multimodal, an enterprise founded in Iceland. The takeover includes changing the brand into Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal. The company will continue to cover domestic and Sweden-Norway traffic, as well as onward connections into Europe, and the existing team will remain in place.
Samskip has had a minority stake in Van Dieren since 2007. The local managing director of Van Dieren Sweden, Lars Lerstorp, who continues to lead the Ahus-based company, said, "we are confident that demand will rise for multimodal solutions, not only for environmental reasons but also because of road transport issues, such as higher diesel prices, driving time restrictions, road taxes and the lack of truck drivers."
Samskip Van Dieren Multimodal extended its intermodal network by adding rail shuttle services connecting Duisburg (Germany) to Malmö (Sweden) in March 2015.
