The International Shipping Centre Development Index has ranked Singapore top in terms of the performances of 46 major ports. London took second place and Hong Kong was third.
The three cities are "the absolute leaders" due to their large port facilities and comprehensive maritime business service sectors, according to the report, which was compiled by Xinhua Indices, Xinhua News Agency and The Baltic Exchange. Shanghai overtook Dubai and climbed to sixth place while New York and Busan both advanced one place.
Tokyo dropped out of the top 10, with Athens replacing it in tenth place. Four of the top 10 shipping centres are in Asia, four in Europe, one in the Middle East and one in the USA, said the report, which was released last Friday.
