It is fair to say that German car manufacturers are experiencing a “golden” era at present, and there is a need to expand. Against this backdrop, the property developer Goodman is currently building a 70,000 sqm facility in Kleinaitingen, in the Augsburg district (Germany) for BMW.
The automobile group is expanding its aftersales logistics for spare parts and accessories and that business will be located at the Kleinaitingen platform, which will act as a regional distribution centre for southern Germany. Wolfgang Baumann, VP parts logistics management, BMW Group, explained, "it is our customers that finally benefit from our enhanced distribution efficiency."
The new Goodman complex will encompass around 66,000 sqm of storage space, 2,000 sqm of offices and staff rooms, as well as 1,000 sqm for outdoor storage. It is planned to hand over the new property at the end of January 2016, and operations will start in Q1/2016.
